Highland Perthshire Tourism Portal

The portal is aimed at businesses within a well-defined tourist area who join as members to cross promote attractions in the Highland Perthshire region of Scotland. The portal was developed using Umbraco, again emphasising what a highly configurable and customisable platform this is. From the user point of view, the portal has a number of interesting and useful features besides the usual listings of accommodation, restaurants and attractions that one would expect in a tourism portal. Firstly, the user can create a "trip". A trip is a set of outlets and facilities that the user would be interested in visiting. A trip works a bit like a shopping basket, allowing the user to add items and, ultimately, review and print a map of places of interest. A map search facility is included and all members have a web page which includes a map of their location.

Content is entirely managed by the members who are able to update information on their establishements including location, image galleries and facilities. Users of the website are encouraged to provide feedback and ratings to the establishments.

The portal itself would be suitable for any tourism organsation which has a clearly defined geographical area, and the existing functionality could be incorporated into new designs.
